Today's Quiz

Julian
You are Julian of Norwich! It's all about God, to you. You're convinced that the world has a happy ending. Everyone else is convinced that you're a closet hippie, but you love them anyway.

Which Saint Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla

This quiz wasn't nearly as painful as I remember the college calculus final was. Although I think I remember being more excited about the calculus grade -- since graduation hung in the balance!!! Ummmmm.... I'm not sure which was more inaccurate... the passing grade on the calculus test or this quiz confusing me with Julian of Norwich!

Oh... and don't forget to pray before heading out for church in the morning!

64. Before Worship
O Almighty God, who pourest out on all who desire it the spirit of grace and of supplication: Deliver us, when we draw near to thee, from coldness of heart and wanderings of mind, that with steadfast thoughts and kindled affections we may worship thee in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
BCP, p 833

The Lord be with you!

The Established, Modern Church Looking into the Emerging, Postmodern Church"

I'll share a little about what I think this all means for the future, and whether this offers anything for the life and mission of congregations, especially for congregations like St Marks. Questions, comments and dialogue will be welcome throughout the presentation.

Come to the Party

In August of 2002 I began a 3-year contract as priest-in-charge at St Marks. That contract concluded in August 2005.

This Sunday we celebrate the next chapter in the life of this congregation, and in mine. The Bishop of Maryland will institute me as the next rector of St Marks. I find that most of us refer to this as my becoming "permanent" rector -- a laughable label given the shortness and unpredicatabilty of life. I'm aware that I'm just one in a long line of rectors reaching back a century and half, and extending into the future for only God knows how long. And God isn't telling. But it's pretty clear that "permanent" doesn't mean "permanent." At best, since I'm 53, it could be a good, long time, relative to the life of flies or even to most pastors. Yet only a brief moment relative to so many other things!

But in any case, we are looking to the future. Pray for this congregation and for me as we seek to discover, discern, and respond together to God's calling for us in this place in the coming years. May we truly become a spiritual community, for the good of the world.

And if you're around on Sunday, come to the party!!

You can do it

Support the Gulf Coast relief efforts now by donating to Episcopal Relief and Development. Because their administrative costs are part of the national Episcopal budget, those costs are covered -- so that 100% of our donation today will go immediately to relief efforts and aid. ERD has the fastest and easiest donation site I've ever used.

Donate here: http://erd.servicenetwork.com/Donate/Donate.asp

There are some who wish they had become part of the volunteer database for the Red Cross or similar disaster relief organizations. This will not be the last disaster in our lifetimes.

Connect now so that you can part of the on-scene efforts. Go to http://www.volunteermatch.org to connect with the Red Cross or to http://www.cidi.org/datain.htm to connect with the Center for International Disaster Information.
